Pierre Zoller (piek7) is a contemporary artist who works in street art and acrylic portraiture. In his practice as an artist Pierre works on canvas – and wood; skateboard to be more precise. Pierre has been a keen skater since the 1990s. As a painter he follows the tradition of 90s street art in that he collects abandoned material, such as broken skateboards (most of them his own!) in order to transform them into artworks. The long format of the boards allows him to experiment with iconic portraits from renaissance painting to American independent cinema. Scenes from Quentin Tarantino films like ‚Kill Bill’ are amongst Pierre’s most favoured subjects. „What I love most about Tarantino, is his ability to give his actors unusual lines and to place them in unexpected situations.“, he explains. The artist’s interest in the effect of displacement in Tarantino’s unique directing style is echoed in his own acrylic paintings in which he re-appropriates famous artworks and reshuffles previously unrelated elements: Cezanne’s card players are checking their mobile phones and Banksy’s famous flower thrower takes a selfie. In his art Pierre’s takes a close-up look at the human face. Thanks to his professional artistic training he is able to render his subjects in painstaken detail, which has carved a unique place for him in the street art scene. Pierre is also part of the psychedelic rock band AlphaTrip.
