ABOUT THE ARTWORK
One of the distinct advantages of a 'drag painting' are the so-called planned accidents that are created by dragging the pigment across hardboard. Stunning effects can be created in this way and I am never sure exactly how and what pigments will combine. After the initial background is established I allow it to dry. After studying the painting I begin to see patterns emerging - in this case a deep jungle and the splashing of a small waterfall. Bamboo was added sparingly as a foreground. The painting was finished with a pleasant clear, satin seal coat. The painting is framed in a simple hardwood. 'A good work of art is better than a good wine because the image endures over time.'

Born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona with three brothers. I contracted polio at age three and spent nine months in an iron lung. Had a miraculous healing and then during recovery spent hours and hours with paper and pencil provided by my mother. Studied under several artists in the Phoenix Valley including on site watercolor workshops, figure drawing and sculpture. In High School won several Gold Key awards and was a cast member for the T.V. series - Indispensables (series on youth in art). University of Arizona Fine Arts department and one semester at the Florence, Italy Academy of Art. After moving to California I built an art studio on our property in San Marcos. Studied on and off with Gifford Nicholaides in California, where we formed the Pastel Society. Married to Christina Wilson, three children and now seven grandchildren. Life is good!
