VIEW IN MY ROOM
K - dandelion : water clock #17 When I first paint k-dandelion, I created the title because I liked Kafka and I understand of his description of high social walls and prejudices that he couldn't get there no matter how hard he tried to close. But like a dandelion in a nameless field they can bloom anywhere they reach. like kafka’s K. k means It could be me, it could be Kafka, it could be anyone. But first of all, I am a Korean American, so this k means lot to me. In this painting, I got the motif of the Clepsydra in Korean history. In 1434, King Sejong the great made water clock with Jang Yeong-sil. It marks the hour automatically with the sounds of a bell and drum. That clock is Jagyeongnu(self-striking water clock). I thought about the sense of self-awareness I felt in my life. I expressed the feeling of a clock in the body and mind that I realized in time. Also It represents water. just as human interior is 70 percent water, water is very important. Recently, we have been experiencing droughts and floods due to climate change, the seriousness of that question and our lives and the flow of space and time of mind and body related to our environment.
