About The Artwork
This work was a color exploration. I wanted to challenge myself to not use any black/gray in a painting. I wanted to mix the intensity of Japanese war masks, and theater masks with something light hearted and beautiful. The quote I was chasing was "it's better to be a warrior in a garden than a gardner is a war." I hope that this inspires a understanding of balance to every situation. The yin of the flowers, and the yang of the masks. I did this piece on paper, and then built the frame around the image. I set it into place with resin to give it a radiance that made the colors pop! I love eastern culture, and the Japanese masks are some of my favorites! I hope you enjoy as well.
