Kisses Painting

I've always been a fan of trompe l'oeil paintings. I strove to achieve hyper-realistic detail in this painting, and was fascinated by the shiny, crinkly texture of the foil wrapped around the kisses. I wanted to paint five of them adjacent to each other because I was intrigued by how the different colors such as red, blue, pink and green reflected off each other. The abstract shapes were like little interlocking puzzle pieces. For me, making art is solving a type of puzzle. The subject of the puzzle is understanding the nuances of light and color on a deep level.
