I do not know what it’s like to live in Japan. I know what it’s like to be fascinated by the country as a tourist. The country is fascinating, incomprehensive, remarkable…… I dived into Tokyo metropolis and became part of local life for a short time: caught Shibuya vibe and discovered Matcha tea-latte in one of the Shibuya’s Starbucks, observed incredible style of locals, enjoyed sakura in Shinjuku Gyoen Garden. I have got lost in the spider web of Tokyo subway, popped up in some tiny restaurants and experience extraordinary Japanese food, as well as had best ever very early sushi-&-beer breakfast at Tsukiji fish market. The unforgettable different world of Kabuki theatre amazed me. Little ancient temples squeezed between the skyscrapers here and there in Tokyo, the samurai and their horses on ancient paintings, the art of kintsugi ceramics, colorful traditional festivals celebrated in the country and the aesthetics of enjoying the beauty of every surrounding detail – this is Tokyo, this is Japan. I took the Shinkansen train to Kyoto and fell in love with this city and the zen-spirit it radiates. I still cannot define what kept my fascination - the uncountable Buddhist temples and an unexpected tour with one of the genuine and friendly locals or sipping green tea and eating stunningly beautiful and colourful Japanese sweets at one of the tea-houses, strolling the old downtown and spotting the magic Geisha wearing exquisite kimono or admiring their faces with distinctive make up, bright lipstick and extravagant hair-styles. I am inspired by women, their sensual, voluptuous lips and the stories they tell. My artworks often explore the relationship between the looks of contemporary women, their strength, and their delicacy, their freedom and their emotions. Red lipstick is so often used to underline the lips as a beautiful facade of eminently personal and original aesthetics. I admire the possibilities of deconstructionism as a medium of the representation of reality. The idea of fragmentation of the object into components and revitalizing it on the canvas or in sculpture, maintaining the harmony and continuity despite the loss of symmetry is crucial to most of my artworks. My artworks reflect the beauty and richness of our diversity expressed in different forms. I play with shape, colour, texture, realism and abstraction, constructing and advocating the positive aesthetics and feminine depiction of my experiences.
