Mi obra es una fusión de texturas y simbolismos, donde uso el los pigmentos, el relieve y la resina para crear una experiencia visual metafísica. La obra está inspirada en la pentalogía del pintor simbolista del siglo XIX Arnold Böcklin titulada “La isla de los muertos”. La isla que aparece en la obra rodeada de unas insólitas aguas en calma simboliza la laguna Estigia, que según la mitología griega deben atravesar las almas en su camino hacia el inframundo del Hades. El hombre que guía la barca representa al barquero Caronte a quien se debe pagar con una moneda, la misma que se depositaba bajo la lengua del cadáver antes de ser enterrados. En último lugar, la figura envuelta en un sudario blanco que aparece en la proa de la embarcación representa al difunto, que escolta sus cenizas. Éste no siente ansiedad ni vacilación ni miedo ni aflicción, pues nada de esto tiene sentido para quien se sabe en el umbral de una morada definitiva.
