LA DA Y LA MATA talks about what gives us freedom, and at the same time makes us prisoners, in our society. In order to make decisions about our lives, our destinies, our pleasures, it is necessary to have acquisitive capacity. For life itself, money is necessary. To have the vital essentials covered, to be able to research, to read, to travel, to fill one's soul, money is necessary. If you don't have it, (the lack of) money kills your freedom, because of the impossibility of action. If you do have it, you have the capacity to exercise -a certain- freedom. Money provides freedom, in this sense. On the other hand, if you have money, (usually) you have obligations and constraints, which restrains this freedom. I saw this painting in a dream - of course the result has evolved quite a lot in the process, from the image in the dream to the final result- one night, after talks and ramblings about life, society, and our dissatisfactions and concerns with my friend Almudena. Therefore, this is a very personal painting, reflecting my -our- frustrations and incomprehensions about the society in which we live. This work has taught me many things about myself, as a person and as an artist. As an artist, it has corroborated the fact that large format is where I best express myself; it is where I feel the freest. It has also been the work in which I have let myself be carried away by my intuition the most. I have not followed a route, a map, an initial draft. I have let the painting show me the way, without demanding a precise and concrete result. I have learned that mistakes are not mistakes, and I have gained experience - with pleasure - in colour
