This is a reference to the famed Goya painting of a reclining nude. In Goya times the term maja/majo (fem./masc.) referred to Madrid inhabitants who distinguished themselves by their elaborate outfits and sense of style in dress and manners. The painting capitalizes on this reference to explore the impact of social deprivation.
