La visione di Maddalena Painting

This work is dedicated to a very common theme in the history of art and that is to the figure of Mary Magdalene. The inspiration for this painting came to my mind as I was looking at a painting of the same theme treated by Tintoretto. Subsequently, studying the various paintings made in the past centuries, I was also struck by Titian's version. I noticed that the characteristic of many ancient paintings was to represent the weeping Magdalene. This did not convince me very much. For this reason, after having documented myself on various sources, during the execution of my personal version, I wanted to portray a woman while she is immersed in pure and simple contemplation of herself. Precisely during this contemplation the woman sees as a flash what will be her manuscript, a large part of which was then lost by an unknown hand in the following centuries. In the strongly symbolic painting, I have inserted various esoteric elements that in some way recall the symbolic figure that the Magdalene represents. The skull symbolizes the vanity and materiality of the human physical body; the gold vial contains the ointment of Universal Life, the compass is a reference to the great universal architect, while the parchment is a reference to the apocryphal gospel of Mary Magdalene. The surrounding landscape is taken from the stories that exist about this figure, that is, a mountainous and verdant place, probably French, which gave room to Mary Magdalene once she left her homeland to spread the original teaching of Christ. The painting was painted with glossy paint after a month of color curing. It is shipped with stamp and certificate of authenticity.
