"Les quatre frères" Painting

Virginie Munch (b. 1971) is a contemporary painter and sculptor based on Réunion Island. Originally trained in textile applied arts, she has developed over the years a distinctive body of work where abstraction, enigmatic figures, inner graffiti, and primitive traces converge.

Her artistic practice stems from a vital need to give form to a sensitive perception of the world and to make visible what escapes words. Her work explores emotional landscapes, silent tensions, and traces of memory that emerge beneath the surface.

She has developed a personal visual language that intertwines raw motifs with her own artistic writing, fragmented silhouettes with vibrant colours. Her paintings and sculptures appear to arise from an intimate territory where inner vibrations, instinct, and a profound sense of humanity intersect.

Her current research revolves around emerging figures that embody fragility, strength, mystery, and the untamed aspects of human nature. Alongside these works, her more abstract series extend an exploration of memory, traces, and inner resonances.

Each artwork is conceived as a presence, a fragment of a story gradually revealed to the viewer. Through her work, Virginie Munch invites a sensitive encounter: a space where one can sense what eludes, what pulses beneath the surface, what seeks to emerge, or what remains suspended in time.

Working with acrylic, pastel, and charcoal, Virginie Munch has developed a distinctive practice of sgraffito over time. By incising the painted surface, she reveals intricate networks of lines and textures that bring forth the textile and graphic influences embedded in her work.

Since 2024, she has been officially listed as a ranked artist, and her works have entered private collections in fourteen countries. Her work is regularly exhibited in galleries and art fairs in Réunion Island and mainland France, and has received recognition through international art competitions.
