Levantinka Painting

Goal nr 2. Zero Hunger I must admit that working on a prepared topic is not my favourite. But I took the challenge and ended up loving it! Researching about the hunger, obesity, malnutrition and enormous waste actually inspired me to create an impactful image of a clearly contemporary woman in a pose of a goddess. In ancient images of tantric or Hindu goddesses one can see the enchanting vitality of a woman that gives her soft strength to feed, give birth and to sustain. In the world where balance is severely tilted this soft vitality which is considered innate in a woman is what is most needed. Palette I used is soft and pastel but brush strokes are intense, as to create complementary opposing forces which once more bring harmony and balance. The work is titled “Levantinka”, which is a beautiful name, but also a type of olive. Perhaps it came to these parts from the Levant, although it is not certain, but the name is preserved to indicate the possible direction of origin. One of the initiatives to combat hunger is the cultivation of local seeds, and one of them is this type of olive. I found it interesting that this variety is considered to originate from Herzegovina and Dalmatia, but its name refers to another geographical area. I believe there are many similar and interesting stories in agriculture. It actually shows the interconnectedness of the world and that no matter what seemingly insignificant thing we do, like the butterfly effect, it reverberates through the world.
