ABOUT THE ARTWORK

An original acrylic painting on a wood panel. This painting was shown at the Mall Galleries London as part of the Society of Women Artists 2024 summer exhibition which was opened by Princess Michael of Kent, the Patron. Painted in a rich palette of russet oranges and teal blues the painting expresses the nature of the landscape on Lewis, one of the islands in the Outer Hebrides. I spent a week there last autumn and loved the warm colours of the dried grasses and the faded heathers. There are so many lochs on Lewis - and this painting is inspired by all that water. The painting is framed in a contemporary style bespoke wood frame that is painted white to suit most decor. It is ready to hang straightaway. A colourful addition for any room.

SHIPPING AND RETURNS
Delivery Time:

Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

The landscape is my main source of subject for painting - particularly the orderly impact on the landscape of human habitation and farming. The framework imposed by fencing hedges ditches etc and the impact these divisions have on the land is always interesting. Colours lent to the land for a few months by growing crops is another element. The rather harsh lemon of the rape or mustard crops, the cool blue of a linseed field, the effervescent mixture of echinacea flowers - all these colours provide problems for an artist. While they are very dramatic , visually they don’t sit well with the native trees and hedge colours, but I am drawn to them as a subject on exactly that account. This is what inspires my work - colour.
