About The Artwork

Liabilities came from the feelings present at the beginning of the pandemic in 2020. There was fear of the unknown, knowledge that our own actions would matter and on some level the innate probably that we all needed to protect one another. It caused me great frustration with those that didn’t care about the possibilities of this virus causing great harm to mass numbers. I lived through the Aids epidemic so I was deeply triggered and felt extremely responsible with what I could do to mitigate further spread. I knew that for some they would eventually be liable for the carelessness and as it turns out, they were. Liabilities color palette would suggest happiness but the mark-making suggests chaos, and the small yellow area suggests hope. I felt I was continually in that space of hope and frustration. There are some events in my life that present triggering emotions for me, one of them is epidemics and in this case, a global pandemic. The extraordinary feeling of being vulnerable and out of control of something so small provoked anxious feelings, brought back bad memories from the 80’s and unilaterally forced me to stare down and confirm my beliefs in humanity. The sense of the unknown was scary to most, and eventually that turned to frustration and disbelief with how divided humanity was on this issue. For American’s the issue became sadly political adding insult to injury. I guess I had a very innocent view of how we would cooperate through a pandemic and my belief in humanity became muddy. This painting shows my frustration with the chaotic line work and vast difference in contrasting colors. If I had a larger space and canvas at the time, I might have even been madly throwing paint onto the surface! Joan Mitchell was a giant influence on my energetic brush work.

Robin Jack Sarner is a talented female artist hailing from Los Angeles. With a degree in Art Education her traditional training left her unsatisfied and prompted a focus on abstract expressionism informed by the American mid-century masters. With a profound fascination for painting emotions and capturing visual narratives, Robin delves into the depths of the human experience. Through her art, she unravels the intricate connection between emotions and the transformative power of the creative process. Using large canvas surfaces, gestures, marks, drips, scratches and mixed media, her creations fuse the immersive journey of self discovery and purpose. Robin’s upcycled creations explore nostalgia, preserving historical ephemera, honoring influential loved ones and memorializing the analog age of “old school.” Her work has been exhibited in local and international galleries, published in art magazines and retains worldwide collectors. Robin continues to create and present curriculum based abstract art projects for local school districts serving over 10,000 children annually. She actively participates in art classes, local art groups and seeks residencies to expand her practice and aesthetic. It’s her goal to develop a strong body of work that exemplifies self discovery and her deep connections to archival materials.
