ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The ‘lightning strike’ title struck me half-way through creating this piece. As with every artwork for the past year or so I started with a fanciful representation of Vauban’s defensive fortification walls, but then progressed with elements of Wassily Kandinsky’s and Liubov Popova’s typical shapes and blocks of colour, plus striped elements reflecting the Japanese Shibuya pedestrian street crossing… half of which are aligned to a grid, the others positioned randomly but with an overall balance of tonality and colour in mind. The original ephemeral ‘negative’ zig-zag line is still defined across the design… and so is revealed as a lightning strike across an abstract cityscape.
