Lotus pond has been a subject of my paintings since 2002 when I was accepted into MFA program and left my country. I’ve been exploring different styles and materials on this subject matter: representational art, abstract expressionism, Chinese ink, water color, acrylic, rice paper, and canvas. This series of “Lotus Pond 2016” is a combination of my previous work: mixture of representational art and abstract art; mixture of ink and acrylic. I am abscessed with lotus pond. My hometown, Human province in southern China, is a beautiful water country, rich in ponds and rivers. I grew up observing lotus ponds in their varied views: summer with blooming lotus, winter with dry leafs and stems, day time with reflections in the water, night time with silhouettes. Hometown memory planted hundreds and thousands images of ponds into my mind. After left my hometown and living in the opposite of the earth, lotus pond became a symbol of beauty, memory and home. Lotus pond also has been one of the main subjects of three thousand years of Chinese painting history. I admire and get inspirations from master pieces of all times. Meanwhile I’d like to challenge traditional paintings by sharing my own depicting of lotus pond.
