ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Photo slightly darker than painting. This last year, has been horrific year for violence yet there is still so much beauty in this world. With this series the layers of red and gold build up the emotion of hope. I traveled a lot this year, mainly in Europe. I love how very little is new in Europe, and even the new does not spend a lot of time being new. Dense texture is everywhere. More veils and big black clothing filled in the voids of the crowds under the oppressive summer heat than the last time that I was there. Yet, humanity always comes back like the flowers of spring. Flowers are an expression of femininity in our culture and the flowers in this series are an inherent degradation of how feminism has eroded this last year. Women can’t and should not live under black shrouds. Right now, glitter works for me.

With my art I am trying to make people happier. I don’t think that this is a vain, or shallow goal because without happiness art and life is useless. Politics don’t matter without a shred of hope. Being an intellectual is insignificant if the person receiving the idea is not able to receive the idea because of inner strife. Our environments significantly impact our ideas, perceptions, health, and feelings. How can one be happy? For me the answer is surrounding myself with the people and things that I think are beautiful. Art is not a hard arduous thing for me. Suffering is too common and not necessary with art. If I look for beauty in a color or shape, art is easy. I hope that the viewer of my work feels the love and happiness. Please join my Facebook
