About The Artwork
'Lux Ecce Surgit Aurea' 'See the Golden Light rise' Lux ecce surgit aurea is a poem by the 4th-century Roman poet Aurelius Prudentius from his book Liber Cathemerion. The artwork is made of lead and gold paint. Lead, the heavy and dark metal that alchemists thought they could turn into gold. And gold, which reflects the light and makes it shine. This light represents hope and renewal. The title of the artwork also translates as 'see the flaming sun rise', and that is how it also refers to inspiration. The work forms the basis of a series of drawings and graphics with the same title. The leaden surfaces are the printing plates with which the other versions were printed as engraving and drypoint, and are an almost literal mirror image of this work. Framed it measures 74x81x7 cm.
