About The Artwork

I painted it some time after "The Dreamties" of 1996. it was already lighter, had more white as a background. I overpainted it after my parents died two years ago, when I decided to overpaint everything I find, walls, furniture, clothes, accessories, paintings and so on... with white color.

Sheida Samyi, Austrian- Iranian, born in August 1966, in Austria. Studies in marine biology. Computer artist and painter. Graphic design education in New York and Los Angeles (Parsons school of Design and School of Visual Arts). From 1996-2001 conceptualizer and art director of the project DUPLICATENCES together with poeter c.siegl. 1994- 2018 several exhibitions and installations in Vienna, London, New York, Germany. Creation of the first book you can read from both sides, with the title art is at its end - art never ends. After her education in Graphic Design at the Parsons School of Design in New York and freelancing in Los Angeles she works as a textartist mainly in the field of fine arts. During years of developing a special type which you can read from both sides, the duplicatences (exhibitions in Vienna, London, New York/Guggenheim) and from the intense work on a book with the title "art is at its end - art never ends" grew out a very typical face. Her inscribed objects, photographs and videoinstallations emphasize the ambiguity of words and her changeabelness with any environment. In her lyrics (prize winner of the lyric competition of the National Library of German Poems, Carinthian Prize for Lyrics ), her theater productions (direction, script, video) her poetryfilms she also leaves more than customary room for free interpretation. The series "blicklinks" is a face, which is a composition of her typical face and its reflection. To be able to read it you have to turn your head left and read from the bottom to the top while covering the right side. Carved into plaster walls they give an archaic impression by looking just like unknown signs and again this contradiction is which makes it so fascinating. Out of that she created the series "flying carpets" where she used the "blicklinks" words and formed them into new patterns, which seem like mandalas. Series "trash poetry/reading minds" Describes unexpressed moments: moments of childhood, their memories changing with time; moments of silence, when it would have been better to say something; moments of longing felt after inexpressible happiness; moments of thoughts which, rejected, remain unretrieved from the place where we lost them-and perhaps these are so powerful that words are not enough to describe them. I love to work with unusual imagery. I combine them with text. The image tells a story, the words do too, and together it´s yet another story.
