About The Artwork

“I feel good about what I'm waking up doing and about my lifestyle. At one point, I wasn't proud of my lifestyle... Now, I wake up with the feeling that I'm going in the direction that I'm here for. Like, what I'm on this planet for, I'm doing it. Bigger than just the L.A., bigger than some gang-banging, bigger than some street shit. Just on some human shit. I'm doing what I'm here to do." -Nipsey Hussle

Chicago based artist, Khleo Morris, studied Commercial Art at Chicago Vocational Career Academy and earned her Bachelors in Fine Art at Harrington College of Design. She has worked in the fields of interior and event design before stepping back to pursue her true calling in Fine Art. Inspired by the nature of duality, she paints portraits of strong contrast in inverted imagery and bold accents of color to explore the strengths drawn from both good and bad aspects within her subjects. Her art has been selected for the Black Creativity exhibition in Chicago, The Other Art Fair in Los Angeles, and Hairachy exhibition in Detroit and has been featured in Block Club Chicago March 2020 ARTIST STATEMENT My work is dedicated to the power of the human spirit and the nature of duality the fuels it. Everything that happens in our lives, both good and bad, positions us for the next chapter in life and contributes to our own personal greatness. I’m greatly inspired by negatives of film processing that I find to have a subtle exposure of one’s true spirit not quite captured in the developed image. Putting both phases of the image at play captures a wider range of emotion to achieve a balance of nature and spirit, bad and good, love and hate. It connects strengths pulled from both sides. Both must be honored to provide a deeper understanding of the subject and connect the viewer to shared aspects within themselves. This takes on many facets. It speaks to our demons, dissects pain behind a smile, and taunts the latent warrior within.
