MIDNIGHT SUN - a miniature Painting

This painting is one of my favourites, because of the spirit of adventure it evokes. It involved the act of driving after the sun at midnight, watching it set and then chasing it in our car and watching it set again. My friend and I were completely mesmerised by the strange but magical slowing of time inside the arctic circle in midsummer, where the sun only set for one hour before sunrise. I am very fond of this experience. This is painted in oil, on wooden panel. The panel has been coated in eight layers of traditional gesso on top of which an oil ground has been painted. Please avoid touching the surface as it is very delicate. A carpenter has made a stained oak tray frames to fit this work. It is lightweight and can be hung with specialist wall velcro, or a framing attachment/ hook can be applied.
