ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Early in 2016, I attended a six-week-long course on Shipibo plant medicines in Peru, where I received a vision of "Madre Chiric Sanango," while dieting with that plant medicine. The spirit of Chiric Sanango appeared in the form of a wizened old Shipibo lady. The painting also depicts some traditional uses of Chiric Sanango, which was an invigorating tonic used by Shipibo warriors preparing for battle, and occasionally in ayahuasca brews in order to strengthen patients.
