Again the description for this painting suits the whole series. This nude was one of the first I painted of this series, and it actually was inspired by a man I have never seen naked. But do I need to? No, I paint him. This painting is part of a series of male nudes. I start not by the male image, ...

About the Artist

Susanna Cardelli

Germany

Dear art-lovers,
I am Susanna Cardelli, painter, calligrapher and grafics artist based in Berlin and Rome, autodidact by choice.
From early childhood the curves and dynamics of baroque flow in my veins; later in life the passion of german expressionism joined in to resist and question them.
Throughout my childhood and first youth, I traveled the world with my parents, thus developing an affinity to different cultures and means of expression, from the detailed and decorative of the South, to the impetuous brush-strokes of colder Europe, loving all.
Still thanks to my family I had the chance to encounter art at a very early age, and have ever since been enthralled by it.
Art history and humanistic studies continue to accompany my artistic work.
In 1998 I achieved a diploma at the Fachhoschule Augsburg in Communications Design, specializing in calligraphy. This discipline added a completely new dimension to my approach to art –in a way, it freed me from formal patterns I didn’t realize were so strong. Calligraphy often mingles with my figurative sujets, at times lending them a strong abstract character, at other times its presence is more discreet manner, you might see it in the repetition of certain brushstrokes.
I have worked for many years as set-designer for feature films, and love film.
I am also a mother, a wife and a daily challenge to my dog, who’s more of a cat when it comes to eating.
