Bobby van Druff is a multidisciplinary artist working across photography, painting, and mixed media. His practice explores queer vulnerability, intimacy, sexuality, and identity, focusing on the tension between concealment and exposure. Through acts of obscuration, intervention, and experimentation, he examines how bodies are seen, hidden, desired, and remembered.
Using a recurring visual language of red, black, and gold — often centered around a singular red circle or dot — van Druff creates work that holds technical precision and personal narrative in productive tension. His interest in materiality, structure, and process allows him to push surfaces and mediums in order to express intimate stories around queer identity, vulnerability, and visibility.
He studied Architecture and Architectural History at the University of Virginia and began his professional career in university campus planning at Brown University and Columbia University. He later moved into Formula One, where he spent ten years at Mercedes helping redesign the team’s F1 factory in the UK, and now works as a consultant supporting other Formula One teams. That experience in highly technical, precision-driven environments continues to shape his approach to art-making, informing a practice where material exploration becomes a vehicle for deeply personal expression.
