This painting evolved as a figure ground relationship. The viewer can feel the presence of the whole person, but one does not see him in his entirety. the painting itself has been produced using a limited pallet. Just four colors Yellow Ochre, Venitian red also Black and White. Conceptually this painting is similar to Michelangelo's David. The pose is before the punch, which raises the question what about the Goliaths in our own lives.

I consider myself a regionalist painter. Similar in philosophy as Edward Hopper, Thomas Hart Benton and Andrew Wyeth. Instead of attaching themselves to a particular movement, they pushed their art into an individualist pursuit. About 35 years ago I started out to be a graphic designer. My tenure in that workforce was short lived and in retrospect I never liked design as much as fine arts. I have been painting on a daily basis now for around twenty years. I like the idea of being versatile with my skills, and I try not to limit myself to one particular subject matter. Having good drawing skills is important to me, and i believe it is an asset to all kinds of disciplines.
