THE PAINTINGS SECTION FROM DAVIS MUSEUM The Davis Lisboa Mini-Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona Davis Lisboa, “Marcel Duchamp #5", 2016, oil on canvas, 15,74 x 11,81 x 1,57 in (40 x 30 x 4 cm) What/who inspired the work? This work was inspired by Marcel Duchamp photograph I downloaded on Instagram. What do you hope viewers will feel/think? I hope that viewers think that this painting is a mystical call to Duchamp, who comes from beyond. Although his face conveys melancholy and silence, it intuits that is about to tell us something. Let's hear it. Some people have criticized this painting because they think this portrait represents Duchamp as a ghost. When I look at a painting and I feel I agree with it, then I stop worrying about criticism of others. It's like I'm always inwardly directed by myself. I like it because it is a true portrait. You can recognize the face of Duchamp in it. I do not know very well I painted like a ghost. Maybe because in the act of painting I was linking in my mind a call to my dead father, like a mixed memories. The "biological" father and the "cultural" one. The photograph I downloaded from Internet does not have this personal substrate. Why did you choose the medium, subject matter, style? I chose the oil painting medium because it allows me several rectifications, until I get what I'm looking for. I chose this subject: “Portraits of artist who have created their own museums". After to have the paintings collection finished, my idea is use them to print a new set of stamps for "The Stamps Section from Davis Museum”. This section consist in 25 royal custom stamps produced by the Royal Mint - Fábrica Nacional de Moneda y Timbre (RCM - FNMT), meeting all the requirements and guarantees of their own security from the effects of postage. The postage stamps will be inserted into the literal RATE A, whose value is equivalent to the national standard rate card. RATE A is for domestic shipments of standard letters and postcards up to 20 grams. Therefore, the time and level of service in the postal network will be equivalent to the current postage of 0.34 € (2016). This limited edition of only 25 stamps is not available for ordinary use, but exclusively for public and private collections. I chose the style of photorealistic paintings because I'm interested in knowing how far of realism I can reach. How will your artwork be packed for a movement? Artwork will be guaranteed to be shipped in accordance with high security standards, so that your shipment is as safe as possible while traveling from the artist's studio to your museum, gallery, hotel, business or home. For this, your oil paintings on canvas will be sent unrolled, stretched out on a wooden frame, flat, without frames and any special assembly. The packaging of wrapped canvases consists of: · An acid-free archival quality glassine paper cover · Two sheets of Foam boards · A sealed heavy plastic bag (to protect against moisture) · Two layers of bubble wrap and secure with tape · Cardboard protectors to each corner of the oil painting · Two other larger sheets of Foam boards · A sturdy cardboard box marked as "Fragile" Davis Museum Paintings Section in Private Collections Alejandro Vásquez Herrero Collection, Viladecans, Spain.
