About The Artwork

Often when I finish teaching a workshop my energy level is low having spent 3+ hours with my art students. But on the occasion of creating Mariposa my energy was soaring. As soon as the last student left the studio I grabbed a 48x48" canvas, my lucite palate, jars of acrylic and my large color shapers. Think of color shapers as paint spatulas in a variety of shapes. With energetic music leading me on I began to dance with this canvas. I felt like a table side chef at a hibachi restaurant but instead of knives on the grill it was color shapers on canvas. Using generous amounts of paint from my own supplies and a few plates of paint left behind from the students (I hate to waste paint) I spread paint on the canvas, scraped it back, wide lines, fine lines all is a sweeping upward movement. Before I knew it hours had passed and Mariposa took flight. Painted on 1.5" gallery wrapped canvas. Does not need a frame. Hanging hardware attached. The painting is signed on the side so buyer may change the orientation of the painting by simply changing position of the wire hanger attached to the back.

Ty Rose’s work as an artist is deeply influenced by over twenty five years of helping people look beyond the obvious to find a different perspective in their life journey. His skills in helping people during life’s transitions have carried over into his work as an artist. Growing up in an environment of “rigid lines, black and white” Ty’s personal life journey lead him to a life of inner examination, reflection and transformation. This journey now find’s its way to his canvases and is reflected through Ty’s use of negative and positive space, interaction with color and the ability to “see” in darks and lights. Raised in rural Kansas and Missouri Ty developed a love for nature roaming through the fields and woods of America’s Heartland. His work around patterns, textures and colors from nature is based in the belief that perfect harmony may be found in nature.  Ty often uses very heavy texture causing the image to rise off the canvas. His use of expressive color in some paintings is juxtaposed by his use of a limited palette of black, white and grey in other paintings causing the viewer to focus on line and form. The end result is art that invites the viewer to experience Ty’s paintings through their own life journey and reflections. It illustrates the journey of a man who has found his place in this life. In the fall of 2012 Ty opened 19th & West Creative - “A space where art and creativity serve as healing agents on our journey to wholeness of body, mind and spirit.” The Costa Mesa Westside space serves as his studio, gallery and space where Ty lead’s art workshops.
