ABOUT THE ARTWORK

When you visit a place for the second time and you remember it as a wonderful one you may feel disappointed: the place is no longer beautiful and barely match with your former visit. Your brain has deformed, idealized and mixed your previous experience with other ones. Try to take advantage of your dream before being spoiled by a new “rational” sight. I try to paint these sensations. It is not about a painted memory but painting the fact of remembering. Colours, shapes, feelings, a warm weather, odours of grass... maybe good friends. This work recalls one evening in Marrakech

Agustí Viladesau was born in Barcelona. He has exhibited in Spain, France, Italy, the United Kingdom and the United States, and has won several prizes. He studied Art at the Barcelona School of Fine Arts and Art History at the University of Barcelona. "After years of painting, I have come to believe that the painting speaks itself. Purpose, aim, intention and concept are only a small fragment of our knowledge, and the painting should be more on the experience than a declaration of intention. Following many hours of being alone with each of my paintings, struggling with them, hating and loving them, I made a kind of truce: I would start to listen to what they had to say and I would break free from the burden of objects. Using abstraction I try to explain more because an identifiable image excludes too many things. The outcome is something familiar but avoids to be revealed. Therefore one painting may begin from an idea and then it may become something else, because the painting itself dictates what it wants to be. I only echo from inside: 'it works or it does not work'. The painter is just an assistant of the medium that reveals the enigma hidden in his own brain''.
