ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The depicted figure of the Virgin Mary is based on the works of the old masters of painting. It arose from a deep spiritual experience of God and his mother. The face seems so alive and very motherly. The face itself is based on the character of the actress Morgenstern, who is Jewish herself, and because of her pregnancy during the filming of the film in which she played the Virgin, she was ideal for the role.
