About The Artwork

Unique piece The paintings is inspired by the eye of Donatello, a masterpiece by Michelangelo Buonarroti. I chose the detail of the portrait, the EYES, for the strong expressiveness. I created the artwork on the occasion of the pictorial installation dedicated to the human body, exhibited at the Scuderie Aldobrandini Museum in the Frascati citty, in 2002, "Doppio4Verso". Then in another solo exhibition in MAGI'900 Museum (Bologna), Italy, 2002. The theme is the relationship between the anatomic human body and the "work of art" human body. The postclassical relationship between the classical ancient beauty and the contemporary beauty. The eye icon overlays a figurative image of a nude, to suggest the persistence of the gaze. I used my personal technique that brings together the technique of silk-screen painting made by hand (used and then destroyed, for created a UNICUM), drawings, with a brush and spatula, let the suggest an overall picture of the whole, for the effect of flash, direct impact and fast, but also to get closer to detail. The set up is chosen in such a way that the surface of the canvas to come out out of the frame, suggesting an area of wall frescoes, torn from their place of origin and recontextualized in a new situation. In fact, I created some crackles in the application of the color just to suggest the passage of time characteristic of the fresco technique. The painting has a white colored solid wood frame.
