ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Painting a picture is always like a small miracle. When I start working, I have no concept. I entrust myself completely to the process of painting without knowing where it will lead me. I start a painting with a spontaneous idea, a certain colour, a gesture or a sign. If the first expression is too strong or too timid, I balance it out. Spontaneity and rationality alternate in a constant game and create a rhythm that permeates and carries the picture. Nature is an inexhaustible source of inspiration for me, constant in its very own rhythms and yet amazingly different every time. Each step in the painting process has its justification. It is in each case a decision for one possibility and thus also against many other options. This process knows no mistakes and no fear. A natural landscape always holds the magic of perfection, everything is attuned to each other and forms a harmonious unity in mood, colour and form.

Born in Gelsenkirchen, Germany in 1959. He lives in Duesseldorf, Germany, where he works as an artist and teacher for art.For Contact please mail to : colour was freed in the beginning of the 20th century of its bondage to ojective painting, it is getting more and more topic and content of the painting itself in modern art. And also in the current development of painting colour is still a central theme which often comes along with the issue of the limits of painting and the concept of picture. However, Hartmut Makowka chooses for himself a more classic path, where colour is an expression of inner emotional situations or inner pictures and becomes effective as emotional energy in intuitive, (physically) expressive pictures. It is therefore the strenght of colour which impresses us first and creates a certain emotional response.
