About The Artwork

Mehmed II, Mehmed the Conqueror, conquered Constantinople (Istanbul) and ended the Byzantine Empire in 1453. After the siege, Byzantine intellectuals who knew the Latin people escaped to Italy and translated the old Roman Empire resources. People started to awaken and then the Renaissance started in Italy. If Mehmed didn’t conquer Constantinople, Renaissance wouldn’t start in that time period. This piece indicates that chaining events creates more significant events in history.
