An expressive acrylic study of a female head, in a swimming pool, created using professional quality slow drying acrylic paints, on a gesso-coated wood panel. Varnished in acrylic gloss varnish to protect from dust an UV light. Framed in a natural oak tray frame and ready to hang, hooks and cord attached. Frame measures 23.5cm x 23.5cm NB It has proven extremely tricky to photograph the blue background colour accurately in this painting. It is actually quite a deep, rich turquoise blue colour (known as "teal blue" in the Golden range of acrylic paints). I have tried to represent it as best I can here e.g. the lines of a few waves are more visible in the water behind the girl, in real life).

I am an emerging figurative painter based in Edinburgh, Scotland. I am inspired by everyday experience of life and especially people and nature. My paintings often focus on nature and the way people connect with the natural environment in our modern world, especially those of us living in cities and towns. I think about how important the environment will become for all of us, and how it may affect our future lives. I record my ideas in sketches, photographs or plein air paintings, from which I often then develop larger works in the studio. I enjoy using the physicality and expressiveness of the materials - usually ink, acrylic paint or watercolour - to attempt to describe in visual language those strange or beautiful moments which always seem to elude capture in the written word. I am inspired by contemporary figurative artists such as Peter Doig, Marlene Dumas and Chantalle Joffe, but also by the Scottish tradition of painting including artists such as William Gillies and the Scottish Colourists, especially Cadell for his bold use of colour.
