From the new 'Tropic of Cancer' series, an abstract, geometric painting from a series exploring the inter-relationship between form, colour, and pattern. An homage to the square and grid, the work is a playful exploration of pure imagery and aesthetics. Light plays across the domed surfaces, modulating the tone of the monochrome painted colours. Highlights and shadows are dispersed dependent on the prevailing light. The colours are warm-to-hot that work in the tropical latitudes. The premise is a 3 x 3 array of 2-colour couplets of alternating vertical and horizontal bands. These arrangements seek to convey the warming of the global where soon the regions of the equatorial tropics will become uninhabitable and mass human and fauna migrations will be the consequence. For this painting the colours were chosen from the Art Deco vibe and heat of Miami, Florida USA. Broadly my chosen abstract motifs seek to convey through aesthetics the human need to impose order on a universe determined by chaos and entropy.

30 years working in creative technologies industries, as a Sailmaker, Boatbuilder, Commercial Sculptor, CGI Artist & Producer, Film maker, Product Designer and Researcher. It was in these production environments that I learned to use tools, understand materials, and basic engineering principals applied to making objects. Spanning 3 decades I’ve considered myself an artist/sculptor, comfortably working in the realms of fine art & design, spanning physical and digital domains. During this period I have always had a fine art or design project alongside the day job. Following Covid I began a full-time fine art studio practice based in Nottingham, England. I have sought to revise with a fresh approach the “shaped canvas” and reinterpret the Minimalist, post-Painterly approach to flat, solid areas of colour. My approach to painting is predominantly rationalist and conceptual. Seeking critics, curators, collectors, and influencers to champion my fine art production.
