About The Artwork

The Migration series sprang out of 1st Paper Plane painting inspired by art installation The Thousand Means of escape. Initially the geometry, symmetry and perfect visual balance was a strong enough way to inspire simply painting the artwork like a still life of the physical installation. However as I dove into this further the powerful message that was initially seeded started to sprout. Not only the paper planes became a symbol of broken relationship reference (departure, rising to city's and busy empty communities' challenges, going blanc, aspiration to fit in at a cost of your personality etc - spoken in previous cloudy paintings ), its also evolved into current reincarnation - The Story of Two. So the Story of Two is a solution. The way I see it - can't beat them joint them (?) no. Find who is your man / woman (or flying panda in red pants) and hold on to one another. Support each other. Go places together. Become a wingman. Build your glorious sunset or sunrise to walk away into. Its more of a metaphor of how beautiful the world could be when its just you and me. Utopian. Removing unnecessary noise. Details. Keeping it focused. Geometry as you can see - still very much at core. But its slicker, concise, deeper, to the point Through some degree of scale (i'd love to paint some absolute giant version of it maybe 3x3 m mmmmmm) the drama of sky sets the tone and the energy of the painting. the emotional backdrop while the focal point is still you. And her/him/ panda. Size: 150x120 cm (2.86 cm white edge) unvarnished shipped stretched (could take it off the wood sub frame, email for that otherwise arrives ready to go on the wall) would benefit from framing can be viewed in my art studio in Berkshire(UK) videos and more images here: @y_martynova_ i do accept commissions with size / colour specific please enquire

Statement: As a multidisciplinary artist Yuliya enjoys experimenting across traditional media developing several collections in parallel, which are heavily influenced by her habitat. Just like her approach to painting, behind the striking aerial seascapes, dreamy sky canvases and delicate watercolour geometry on paper or expressive charcoal drawings there lies an adventure. Questioning 'what if', 'where to' and answering 'lets run away’ Yuliya's paintings take you on the journey offering a visual escape not just for your eyes but with deeper symbolism at heart. Seemingly light and often romantic creations are kaleidoscopic puzzles channeling enveloping sense of calmness throughout. While her subject is quintessentially serene, her processes are complex and labour intense. Behind effortless simplicity there is a real skill and no room for error and brutal selection. The canvas that have not achieved desired finish or composition get discarded or painted over. So only the best make it to the viewer. Past: Born in USSR and raised in a small oily town on the shores of the Caspian Sea (Kazakhstan), a promising art school graduate age 15, Yuliya was swayed to train as a lawyer instead. Moved to Aberdeen in 2005 after working for a Kazak engineering energy firm, Yuliya have worked in energy sector in London till 2010 moving to private clients and wealth management after completing master degree and conversion course in English law . Since 2015 when she became a professional full time artist after 15+ years legal career, Yuliya became a frequent participant of London art fairs, popular with high end interior designers, hospitality sector art consultants and gallerists. In 2020 Yuliya became a mother, moved out to Berkshire to live her happy ever after in a beautiful countryside renovating her 20s house and building an art studio. (Fun) F a c t s: Yuliya lived in 4 countries, visited 40, speaks Russian & Greek, was married twice before she found her forever number 3, renovated 3 properties and can’t function without coffee in the morning. She paints listening to Stanford lectures on nature of startups and neuroscience, Berkley on economics and doesn’t watch tv. Has opinions about everything in geopolitics, keeps track of property markets, would become a stand up comedian if art career goes tits up and paint all your north facing rooms in dark colours.
