After a foundation in fine art, I specialised in graphic design and have forged a successful career in this field as an independent practitioner.
After starting my working life as an independent graphic designer, my growing interest in the contribution that good design can make to business performance led me to return to higher education to study business, specialising in advertising and marketing. I became fascinated by the emergence of the personal computer in the early 1980s and decided to focus my activity on exploring the potential that this new technology possessed to revolutionise the way organisations and people communicate.
This fascination underpins my focus on the creation of original, digital works of art. I constantly seek to make effective use of new technologies, exploring how best they can be applied in the artistic process.
I continue to exhibit regularly and create works of art for general sale, personal collections and private commissions using a wide range of materials and techniques, with a focus on digitally-created images applied to various surfaces.
My aim is to express the inherent beauty of architectural structures in bold, graphic statements.
With a passionate interest in the built environment, I take inspiration from the amazing ingenuity that is often involved in the creation of these structures.
As we go about our daily lives, it is easy to begin to take these treasures for granted. My artwork prompts a pause for reflection, considering how lucky we are to be surrounded by such beauty.
Drawing on the imagery of the classic travel posters of the 1920s and 1930s, my artwork is produced in a fresh, unfussy, contemporary style.
The method I most often use involves the creation of vector-based images that combine the precision of technical illustration, the form and depth of architectural visualisation and the emotional expression of photographic images.
I seek to capture the essence of the buildings, through varying degrees of abstraction, whilst retaining their defining characteristics.
The geometry of the buildings is described in as few lines as possible, using vivid colouring and subtle gradients to accentuate the forms and their response to light.
