Mislain, In-between is an original painting/drawing on a wooden panel. The original is for sale as well as prints in a variety of different sizes. With this piece, I hoped to push the boundaries yet again. I wanted to use ink, acrylic, gouache and water colors with water proponents to see how much depth I could create. I began using thick, heavy ink to create the tree. Following this, I left certain areas blank, or drew the tree in a bit lighter so I could start adding washes of the blues and pinks. I would then go back in and add more layers of the trees, then more layers of the colors, so on the so forth. The spotting effect is from water. I would lay the wood panel flat and let water sit on the panel for 5 minutes or so then let it run off onto the floor. This removed layers and created the interesting spotting/dripping effect.

I am a 26 year old living in downtown San Diego. I grew up in LA county and went to school at UC Berkeley. I went into college as a collegiate soccer player with hopes of playing professionally. That did not come to fruition, so I began to think about what else I was passionate about, and that answer was art! I was successful in the art program with a lot of features in UC Berkeley's Art Gallery, Kroeber Hall. I had the incredible opportunity to study under great artists like John McNamara, Brody Reiman, Craig Nagasawa, Indira Morre, Randy Hussong, and many more. Once graduating in 2015, I decided to move back down south where I could be warm again and afford my rent :) Since being in San Diego, I leased my own art studio and became a working artist and curator. In 2018, I produced and curated 2 large galas in San Diego's oldest most historical art building, The Brokers Building Gallery. Both galas featured between 10-20 local and international artists. I recently decided to take a leap and become an Art Consultant for National Geographic, this job I did not enjoy so I am working on building as an artist and pushing myself to create consistently again.
