About The Artwork

"Misty Nebula” is one in a series of paintings that were visually inspired by the grandeur of the Hawaiian night sky. But profound discussions with the artist's mother about the metaphysical essence of the universe and humanity's place within it gave each of The Nebula Series paintings a much deeper meaning. As you gaze into the depths of "Misty Nebula," you are drawn into a mesmerizing swirl of misty hues and celestial formations. Undulating turquoise, bronze and purple seem to whisper secrets of the cosmos, inviting contemplation and introspection. The interplay of light and shadow dances across the canvas, evoking a sense of cosmic harmony and interconnectedness. What sets "Misty Nebula" apart is its ability to transcend mere visual representation, serving as a conduit for deeper reflection and gratitude. Encouraging viewers to delve into their own interpretations and allowing them to discover personal revelations within its nebulous depths. In essence, "Misty Nebula" is a poignant reminder of the boundless beauty and abundance that the universe, or perhaps a higher power, bestows upon us all. It urges us to pause, reflect, and express gratitude for the myriad blessings that enrich our lives each day. In the presence of "Misty Nebula," viewers are not just observers; they are participants in a cosmic dialogue, reminded of their interconnectedness with the vast expanse of existence. It is a painting that transcends time and space, inviting us to ponder the mysteries of the universe and our place within it.

Originally from Texas, George Evan Davis has lived in Honolulu, Hawaii for almost 40 years. He started painting while still in high school in Houston, Texas and graduated from college in 1978 with a BA in Art and Psychology from East Texas State University. After declining acceptance into a graduate program in Art Therapy, he moved to Dallas to pursue his dream of taking the art world by storm. However, after living the life of a starving artist he put his dream on hold and over the course of the next 45 years had two successful careers, one as an illustrator and graphic designer, and one as a massage therapist and body worker. Now, on the precipice of retirement (and no longer starving), he has picked up where he once left off and is following his dream of creating full time. Working primarily in oils and acrylics he has developed a style that, like gender, is fluid and unconfined. Sometimes his work is realistic and representative and other times it’s abstract and the concept defines the process and medium(s). Sometimes he has something very personal or political to say but at other times he paints just for the joy of creating something cool and beautiful.
