This is painting is about an iconic object towering over two iconic islands. The bell is located at the top of Monhegan Island and assists lobstermen during dangerous times at sea. It stands as an immovable reminder of the dangers of fishing off the coast of Maine. I wanted to record the ruggedness of the bell being illuminated by the soft, diffused morning light washing over the island. Manna Island is in the background. Manna is bleak and uninhabited. It contrasts the bell that exists to preserve life. This painting is pastel on Kitty Wallis paper. It has a 3 inch museum matte under glass with a gold patina frame.

Born 1954 in Weisbaden, GermanyI have been an artist for over 30 years. I have been a portrait painter for most of my art career. I have painted business leaders such as the posthumus portrait of L.L. Bean for the L.L. Bean Company in Freeport, Maine, Marvin Sadik, the former director of the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C. and the late philanthropist Elizabeth Noyce for her private collection. I have painted multitudes of children portraits throughout the years. I am now painting landscapes in oils and pastels and exhibiting my work in the Northeast of the USA.
