About The Artwork

For 20 years, I have painted artworks inspired by the aspirational nature of Buddhism. My painting "Monk Station" continues this theme and brings a saffron robed pilgrim into a 21st century urban moment. Inspired by a subway station in Montreal, this painting looks at the place of the spirit in our fast paced lives. "Gregg Chadwick paints scenes from the life of Asia that reminds us of the monastic life of pilgrimage which has been all but lost in the West." -Ratnagarbha and Thomas Jones from "Urthona: Journal of Buddhism and the Arts" Issue 20 Many of my new paintings in 2020 continue this theme.

GREGG CHADWICK creates his artwork in an old airplane hangar in Santa Monica, California. The recurring sound of airplane take-offs and landings from the active airport runway outside his studio reminds him of his own history of travel. Gregg Chadwick actively exhibits his artworks in galleries, art fairs, and museums nationally and internationally. He earned a Bachelor's Degree at UCLA and a Master's Degree at NYU, both in Fine Art. He has had notable solo exhibitions at the Sandra Lee Gallery (San Francisco), Manifesta Maastricht Gallery (Maastricht, The Netherlands), Space AD 2000 (Tokyo, Japan), and the Lisa Coscino Gallery (Pacific Grove) among others. He has participated in nearly one hundred group exhibitions including the LOOK Gallery (Los Angeles), the Arena 1 Gallery (Santa Monica), and the Arts Club of Washington (Washington DC). Chadwick recently had his work featured at the LA Art Show 2015 by the Sandra Lee Gallery and his work "The Station Agent" was illustrated in the catalog. Chadwick also had his artwork exhibited at Aqua Art Miami in December 2014 and in connection with Peter Clothier's new novel "The Pilgrim's Staff", Chadwick had his painting created for the cover exhibited at the the Laguna Art Museum in January 2015. Chadwick's art is notably included in the collections of the Adobe Corporation, the Gilpin Museum, the Graciela Hotel Burbank, the Harbor Court Hotel - San Francisco, the Kimpton Group's headquarters in San Francisco, the National Museum of the Marine Corps, Nordstrom Company Headquarters, the W Hotel Hollywood, and Winona State University. Chadwick is frequently invited to lecture on the arts. In the past few years he spoke at UCLA, at Monterey Peninsula College, at the Esalen Institute, at the World Views forum in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and at Categorically Not a forum that examines the intersection between the arts and science. In November 2015, Chadwick spoke at TRAC 2015 in Ventura, California. Jeffrey Carlson has written two pieces for "Fine Art Connoisseur” on Chadwick: "Gregg Chadwick and Painting Time" and "Gregg Chadwick's 'Revenant'".
