ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Morris dancers 2012 Morris dance is a form of English folk dance usually accompanied by music. It is based on rhythmic stepping and dancing, usually wearing bell pads on their shins. Implements such as sticks, swords and handkerchiefs may also be wielded by the dancers. Participants clap their sticks, swords, or handkerchiefs together to match with the dance. The earliest known and surviving English written mention of Morris dance is dated back to 1448 and records Morris dancers in London. Further mentions of Morris dancing occur in the late 15th century. In the later history, Morris dancing established itself as a form folk dance performed in the parishes by the mid 17th century and still continues today. Acrylic on quality canvas. Signed: Falconer ’12. Sold unframed. W60cm x L60cm x D4cm quality box canvas. Thank you Ben Falconer
