About The Artwork

I make paintings about the nature of the universe; all the phenomena that are here but are not knowable by humans, all the vast chaos of reality that is invisible to us. Art is our compensation for ignorance. —WL "The world is not to be put in order, the world is order incarnate. It is for us to put ourselves in unison with this order." —Henry Miller This painting is made with oil and charcoal on canvas, sized and primed on panel. w x h The work is signed on the left edge (see photo). The artwork comes with a signed notice of authentication. This painting is packed in a custom, wooden shipping crate (per Saachi). The cost of the crate (+/–$850) is included in the price of the artwork.

William Leidenthal grew up in Palo Alto, California. He has been painting since the age of five. William has traveled extensively in Europe and the South Pacific. He now lives in Marin County (San Francisco Bay Area), California. "I make paintings about the Earth, about why our planet is the way it is—paintings about physics and chemistry, astronomy, geology, biology, etc. I make paintings about what was here before humans and what will be here after. I try to create provocative work about things that exist but cannot be seen, what is here with us in this cosmos that we don’t know and cannot understand. I do not make pictures for decoration. I make experiments in paint. "Almost anything you do will seem insignificant, but it is very important that you do it." —Gandhi
