ABOUT THE ARTWORK

129 x 58.5cm. This work is a lithograph-painting triptych on board. In it I evoke an elemental water rhythm through exploring textural and colour contrasts. The textural and colour contrasts suggest the dynamism of a wave rhythm, drawing the eye across the painting's surface. In its own way the work is also concerned with fragmentation, the theme I was exploring in relation to landscape before focusing on more universal rhythms and elements, as the work is formally fragmented across three boards. This fragmentation can represent a shift in the rhythm of the piece and the rhythm of water, which itself is depicted as directional. The breaks in the surface of the paintings are unified by the marks which cross them. The repeat pattern of the lithographic prints corresponds to the idea of natural rhythm, which is further disrupted by the mixed media materials I have used to work into it.

I use abstraction to interpret landscapes and environments, often using a range of mediums to produce dynamic, layered paintings which hold within them a sense of rhythm and flow. I am inspired by art’s potential to express ideas, atmosphere and emotion. I am interested in creating compositional balance by exploring contrasts of colour, form and texture, and enjoy developing and exploring new techniques and materials in my work. Please see my website for more information on my work. Awards: Awarded VACMA Emerging Artist Bursary, 2020. Selected Saatchi Art Rising Star, 2019. Shortlisted for ECA's Astaire Art Prize, 2019.
