ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This painting is from my Neighborhood Series, inspired by my historic neighborhood near downtown Houston, Texas which. I often use dramatic shadows in my work juxtaposed with bright sunlight. I loved the way the windows on this house looked like eyes looking over the fence. With each of my paintings, my desire is to create a mood and atmosphere that leaves the viewer curious and questioning, compelling them to fill in the missing details.

Cary Reeder, a Miami, Florida native, has made Houston, Texas her home since 1996. She worked for more than a decade as a graphic artist and typesetter in the early 80s and received her fine art training at the Glassell School of Art, Museum of Fine Arts-Houston. Her work has been included in numerous local, regional, and national juried exhibitions, and in solos shows at the Galveston Arts Center (2018), Optical Project (2016) and Lawndale Art Center (2013) in Houston. She was twice featured in New American Paintings, was a Hunting Prize Finalist (2014), and teaches at the Art League Houston.
