ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The idea for the painting came during a walk in New York from Greenwich Village to Times Square in December 2018. It wasn’t particularly late, but the streets were fairly deserted and earlier we had been looking at some Edward Hopper paintings at the Whitney Art Gallery and had the title of his painting "Night Hawks" fresh in my mind. We came across this pharmacy in a low rise area, with the Empire State Building looming out of the glowing night sky behind it and thought "there is my homage to Edward Hopper”, while the spelling on the pharmacy gave a nice variation of his own title.
