ABOUT THE ARTWORK

My artworks come from data image in the digital media. My painting series, 'Mona Lisa Syndrome', is created by collecting images of women from among data that operate as post-truth, and going through deconstruction and patterning. The title is a search term used to collect data images on women functioning as post-truth. The title of this painting comes from one of Mona's words in William Gibson's novel, Mona Lisa Overdrive, translated into Korean. Cyberpunk and science fiction tell stories from a future point of view. However, even though it is the future, the female figure that appears in it reproduces the female stereotype that has been repeated from the past. The question of this and the post-truth situation are the starting point of this painting production. The abstract painting is created by deconstructing and patterning female images, which are signals of post-truth, from the collected data. In other words, this painting can be said to be the noise of a post-truth stereotypical image of women that covers and replaces women's diversity. And this was reformatted from a digital image on the screen into a painting via airbrush. Drawing while pressing the trigger of the airbrush makes the user experience a similar sensation to clicking a mouse while looking at the screen. This is why I drew this painting with an airbrush. I hope that viewers will feel the ambiguity created by the title and image together and the special feelings of each person in this painting.

I'm an artist based on painting and animation. My artworks come from data image in the digital media. My painting series, 'Mona Lisa Syndrome', is created by collecting images of women from among data that operate as post-truth, and going through deconstruction and patterning. And the act of making these works is an attempt to think about what women, data users, and individuals who are data themselves can do in the contemporary age of post-truth.
