My aim for these paintings was to define an ideal balance between geometric forms and freestyle lines. I was inspired by urban surroundings where skyscrapers contrast with the natural world; in nature, we can find perfect chaos, and in the urban environment, a chaotic perfection. My chosen palette for these works is based on nature’s palette: blue, red and yellow; I also incorporated white (daylight) and black (darkness).! This project explores intense, vivid colours, bold forms and brushstrokes. I use contrast, combine various tones and colours and work with varying transparency of layers to create texture and a three-dimensional feel. I begin each work by underpinning it with a layer of black markings spontaneously applied to contrast with the white of the canvas. Next, I work with this base layer and analyze the existing forms to guide my composition and develop a plan for each work.
