“North Brother Island” is from my series called the Manhattan Project, which focusses on areas in, or around Manhattan. North Brother Island has a fascinating history. In the 1850s it was the site of smallpox hospital, there was a disastrous shipwreck of the General Slocum in 1904, this island is now uninhabited & designated as a bird sanctuary. The painting is a watercolor on specially treated aluminum composite panels.

My paintings are fractal landscapes and city scapes. I use Luminist techniques of dramatic perspective and lighting, magnified scale, bleached-out effects, and bold colors to reflect the beauty of self-similar patterns in urban and natural settings.
