About The Artwork

I went to North Carolina this past summer. I had never been there. I was struck by the beauty of the beach there but I was more drawn to the marshes in both the morning and night. I have to say there is something beautiful and ethereal about them. Everyday around sunset I would march myself down to the marsh and just stare at the water and the sky. As the light grows more dim at sunset more creatures would appear. Morning would be the same for me. Everything from mosquitoes, birds and fish would seem to come alive. The marshes are a hidden little world unto themselves. It was an experience I am most grateful for. I hope the viewer can feel the life that exist in my painting beyond the surface. I was going through a lot personally at this time and for me the marshes gave me that sense of peace and serenity that I so long for and needed at that time.

I was Born in Roswell, New Mexico and raised in New Orleans and Ft. Worth, Texas. While studying Art History in college, I realized that I was no longer content to merely observe art, I needed to create it. Painting my connection to humanity and nature sparked my curiosity and allowed me to hyperfocus on a level I had never experienced before. Everyday life pulls my brain in a million different directions, but when I’m painting the nature I see in Colorado or Texas, I am completely present in that moment. When I paint, my greatest worries are about color, the process, proportion and the way the light hits a branch or the petal on a flower. I love how it feels to lay a line down a canvas or recreate a certain shade of a color.
