About The Artwork

“Nostalgic Light” is inspired by the Austrian mountainous landscape. The painting process begins with numerous outdoor sketches, that serve as a reference for the canvas painting. Loose brushstrokes sketch the wild landscape and still capture the silence of nature. Summer. Time of the sun. Mountains. Bright sunshine yellow. Soft meadow green. Dark purple shadows shading the mountains. The colors of summer are magical and always make us smile. Summertime is outdoor sketching time! Karin Czermak is heading out with her sketchbook. The artist perceives the landscape attentively. The spicy scent of the pines. The melodic chirping of the birds. Karin Czermak collects these impressions and takes them back to her studio as colors notes and shapes. These sketches serve as refence for the work on larger paintings. Atmospheric. Karin Czermak's paintings are dynamic, expressive and yet capture the serenity of nature in order to bring it into your home. The paintings can serve you as a window into a world of freedom and fantasy. They invite you to take a closer look, discover new details and leave the stress of everyday life behind you. Acrylic, Oil and Pastels on Paper. Protected with Fixativ (for Pastels). Singed and dated on the back. Signed in front.

I am Karin Czermak, an academic professional artist. My passion is painting. My preferred mediums are acrylic and pastels on both canvas and paper. I often head out for some quick plein-air sketching. I love to collect shapes and colours from nature and take them back to my studio, where they serve as inspiration for my canvas paintings. During the work process, I translate landscapes, mountain shapes or forest lines into abstract forms and schemes. The landscape remains visible in the painting but is not immediately apparent. This tension between figuration and abstraction interests me. I explore and redefine it for myself anew in every painting. Inspired by natural areas and landscapes, I aim to create atmospheric, expressive, and poetic paintings. I come from Austria where I had the chance to study at the University of Applied Arts with experienced and very engaged professors. I am also holding a degree in Social and Cultural Anthropology and Chinese Studies and had the chance to live and work in various countries around the world. Thus, my art is inspired by all these experiences I had the privilege to gain during my travel and work abroad. I currently live in Austria, where my love for nature is not only inspiration but also recreation during busy days. I am also a mother of three and my perception of life changed completely after the birth of my children,- and somehow has my art.
